Terms of Use

belotescore.com — Free score-keeping app

In short: BeloteScore is free during its launch period — no game limit, no sign-up, no advertising and no in-app purchase. Nothing is being sold: these Terms of Use replace the former Terms of Sale, which no longer apply.

1. Publisher and purpose

The BeloteScore service is published by:

Jean-Michel CONGOST
Private individual — Goregaon East, Mumbai – 400063, Maharashtra, India
Email: contact@belotescore.com
Website: https://www.belotescore.com

These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) govern access to and use of the BeloteScore application, whether used from a web browser on belotescore.com or from the iOS app.

Using the service implies full acceptance of these Terms. Anyone who does not accept them must refrain from using the service.

2. Description of the service

BeloteScore is a score counter for players of classic Belote and Coinche / Contrée. It is not a card game: the app does not deal cards and does not allow online play. It replaces the paper score sheet.

The service includes in particular:

No account is required. The application works without authentication.

3. Free of charge — launch period

BeloteScore is free during its launch period, in both the web and iOS versions:

The pricing model may change

The publisher reserves the right to introduce a paid offer at a later date (for example a one-off purchase unlocking additional features). Any such change would be announced on belotescore.com and would have no retroactive effect: it would not make past use chargeable and would never trigger a payment without a new, explicit action by the user.

As nothing is being sold, the previous Terms of Sale no longer apply. Any licence purchased in the past remains valid and simply has no purpose while access is free: its holders enjoy unlimited access, like everyone else.

4. Access to the service

The web app runs in any recent browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) with JavaScript enabled. Browser local storage (localStorage) must be allowed for the current game to be kept.

Accessing the service requires an Internet connection and suitable equipment, the cost of which is borne by the user.

The application is provided with no time limit, no quota and no identification.

5. iOS application

An iOS application (iPhone and iPad) offering the same features is distributed free of charge, with no in-app purchase, through Apple’s App Store.

Downloading and installing through the App Store is subject, in addition to these Terms, to Apple’s own App Store terms and conditions. Apple is not a party to these Terms and assumes no obligation regarding the application other than those set out in its own terms.

Data from the iOS application is stored on the user’s device. No synchronisation between devices is offered at this stage.

6. Game rules and third-party content

The application applies the official rules published by the French Belote Federation (FFBelote) and links to the corresponding documents.

BeloteScore is an independent application, with no affiliation to, partnership with or endorsement by the French Belote Federation. The rules referred to remain the property of their authors.

Regional or house variants may differ from the official rules. Where players disagree, the table’s decision prevails over the result displayed by the application.

7. Acceptable use

Users undertake to use the service for strictly personal and lawful purposes. In particular, it is prohibited to:

In the event of a breach, the publisher may restrict or terminate access to the service without notice or compensation.

8. Data and local storage

BeloteScore works without a user account and requests no identifying data. The current game, scores and preferences are saved in the local storage of the browser or device: this data stays on the user’s device and is not transmitted to the publisher.

Clearing browsing data or uninstalling the application permanently deletes this information. It is up to the user to keep any data they wish to retain.

Full details of processing are set out in the Privacy Policy.

9. Availability and changes to the service

The publisher endeavours to keep the service available and up to date, without any obligation of result. Interruptions may occur for maintenance or updates, or for reasons beyond the publisher’s control (hosting provider, network, force majeure).

The publisher may change, modify or withdraw all or part of the features. Should the service be discontinued, notice would be published on belotescore.com within a reasonable time.

As the service is provided free of charge, no compensation may be claimed for unavailability, modification or discontinuation of the service.

10. Intellectual property

All elements making up BeloteScore — source code, interface, design, texts, visual identity — are the exclusive property of Jean-Michel CONGOST, unless stated otherwise.

Users are granted a personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable right of use of the service. This right entails no transfer of ownership.

The typefaces used are distributed under their respective licences (SIL Open Font License, Apache License), reproduced in the project files.

11. Warranties and limitation of liability

BeloteScore is a score-keeping tool for personal and recreational use, provided as is and free of charge.

The publisher cannot be held liable for:

The above applies to the extent permitted by law and does not affect the mandatory statutory warranties available to consumers.

12. Changes to these Terms

The publisher may amend these Terms at any time, in particular to reflect legal or functional developments. The applicable version is the one published on this page at the time the service is used.

In the event of a substantial change — in particular the introduction of a paid offer — the information would be prominently displayed on belotescore.com.

13. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by French law, without prejudice to the mandatory protective provisions applicable in the consumer’s country of residence.

In case of difficulty, users are invited to contact the publisher first at contact@belotescore.com in order to seek an amicable solution.

Consumers residing in the European Union may also use the European online dispute resolution platform: ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr

Failing an amicable settlement, any dispute shall be submitted to the courts having jurisdiction under the rules applicable at the user’s place of residence.
